The Sacred Kingfisher is seen around all coastal areas of Australia.  Sadly, they do not visit me nearly as often as I would like.

This paradigm Australian bird, the Laughing Kookaburra, is actually only native to the East. before I moved to Pickering Brook I lived in a place surrounded by gum trees.  It was a distinctly Australian experience to listen to their monthly regional gathering immediately outside my bedroom window shortly after dawn on Sunday mornings but I wished they could have chosen a more civilised hour for it.  Furthermore, their abysmal standard of debate is matched only by the Australian Federal Parliament.

The Kookaburra is part of the Kingfisher family as can be seen by the crest and the shape of the body.
