Deborah Baker
Left school and joined Savings Bank
of SA, then moved to Commonwealth Public Service in 1974.
Married Mike in 1975 he is ex
Modbury High, remember how we did not like them? Well apparently they did
not like us either!
In 1977 moved to Alice Springs -
what an eye opener. No traffic lights, deli's selling alcohol, trunk phone
calls and radio telephones, taped ABC TV if we were lucky that the tapes
were flown up.
We did a lot of travelling around
there - beautiful, peaceful countryside.
In 1979 moved to Darwin. Same
relaxed atmosphere but more cosmopolitan. Loved the climate and travelling
around the top end. Went through cyclone Max only a baby compared to Tracy -
had a tree come down across the driveway so we had to move that out of the
way before we could go to work.
Moved back to Adelaide in 1982. What
a culture shock!
Gave birth to twin daughters,
Melissa and Kylie in 1985. Returned to part-time work when they started
school.
Have enjoyed lots of holidays in all
states- we really like bushwalking ,cycling etc so have a few good stories
about snakes. Far North Queensland is one of our favourite places.
Hoping to travel more next year when
the girls will be qualified as teachers and off our hands.
